Thank you...I am sorry for the loss of your friend. Thank you for posting this tribute. I just purchased "The Undeserving Poor" and "In the Shadow of the Poorhouse". It was my grandmother's greatest fear that she would die in a poorhouse. She died young, age 51, from a kidney disease that could have been treated had she money and access to a doctor.
